A more clear and rational post about Lunasa.

They were freaking awesome! I had seen them once before at the Irish Heritage Festival. Very different circumstances. There were no elderly drunken sailors trying to dance to the music (teehee) nor little girls trying to mimic older girl's fancy irish dancing. Here, Lunasa was the main event (damn straight). And the major flutist, Kevin Crawford, was freaking hysterical. He mentioned that his first real encounter in Madison was watching a guy in a coffeeshop try to shave himself with a transistor radio. Also, he bragged that when the band was flying to Alaska on St. Patrick's day, he got to do the safety procedures for the plane in return for a tune. Whee!

The band played superbly; they are technically sound and know how to press the right buttons. They mixed a few tunes up... but I'm pretty certain they played Goodbye Mrs. Goodavich with some other reels. Hmmm....

I was a little disappointed that they didn't play much off of Otherworld but they played the best songs off of their newer CDs. Nothing like uillean pipes to set the mood. And they did an encore with Karen Casey (singer) and her band...Lunasa with singing....it worked. :)

Afterwards, I got all of the members to sign my CD (Otherworld of course). The Tool took photos of me with everyone of them which was really swell of him. I was so mumbly when I tried talking to them. I couldn't even get out the name of my favorite song to the lead flutist. BUt I think I impressed him because I brought Otherworld with me. Apparently, it's out of print ( :( ) but it's his favorite. So yeah. Take that!

It was a good concert. And if I hadn't promised Phil that we would see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I totally would have followed them to Chicago. Well, maybe. Traveling a bit lately... But it's freaking Lunasa!
