Highlights of Mock in Milwaukee
Round 1: Defense opening includes the line "I love the constitution." I love the constitution too.
Alex Johnson on redirect states that they were in the alley for 60 minutes. Even the judges were making jokes.
Round 3: One of the Judges works in juvie. His introduction was "When I see kids your age, they are in orange. It's nice to see positive educational experiences in your age."
Round 4: Defense brings up the fact that the plantiff failed to meet its burden because this constitutional case was about ....racial profiling.
I really enjoyed my time with the mockers and the Tool. I'm starting to get the lingo (yes ....NERD) but its fun. I will hopefully be working with undergrads some day so this will be good practice. And they are cool people. :)
Milwaukee Art Musuem was pretty nifty. The Art Institute is better but it was cool to see something new. The new section looks like a boat....it was worth it just for that. They were setting up for some snazzy event that included an auction of sports jerseys. There was even an ice sculpture with the Packers logo on it among other sports teams (I assume all Wisconsin teams).
The art was pretty good. I was most impressed with the following: 1. There was this Renaissance painting of three people in profile. They really looked like women, feminine faces, jewels and flowers in the hair. But they were men. It was really well done and unusual. 2. A painting with a candle in it that looked like it was really lighting up the room. Thank the Heavens for Northern Renaissance 3. Two Lichtenstein paintings. i don't remember seeing any of his before and considering how much I've been studying posters and whatnot. Damn they were cool. 4. An actual open suitcase that had a grate at the bottom that led to a little pond with running water. If you moved around the edges, there was a figure baptizing a child. Serene, surreal and sweet. An unusual combination. 5. A study by Kandinsky of Composition #9!!!! This is my favorite painting and here was a study for it. I wanted to wack Kate for forgetting to tell me. Sigh....Composition #9. It's like frozen music mixed with pure joy and intensity. Lots of contradictions within it. Delicious. 6. Lots of Munters. Didn't realize that Munter was rather nice. Apparently a lover of Kandinsky. (suppose that helps).
Girly drinks from the hotel bar. We didn't go to the Spy Bar (: ( ) but it was blizzarding.
This little chapel near the tourney building. I stepped in and it was all stone floors, wooden intricate ceiling. Old medieval statues. I felt I had walked into France... Lovely quiet place.
