I just read
this article on the potential use of thorium in nuclear power plants. It gives me that "too good to be true" kind of feeling; according to the article thorium plants would have little waste, low risk of meltdown, and would not produce fuel usable for nuclear weapons. I have no trouble believing the government shut this research down for political reasons, but it seems like there must be some other problem here. Any nuclear physicists in the room care to comment?
