Near the end of the summer my friends and I had the ambitious idea of walking a 14 kilometer stretch of the East Coast Trail, which runs 220 kilometers along the eastern coast of Newfoundland. It took us seven and a half hours, including many stops to eat and fuck around. We walked from Fort Amherst, an old installation from WWII; to Cape Spear, the eastern-most point in North America.
Here are 31 moderately interesting pictures from the trip.
PICTURES V: East Coast Trail
Fun with glasses.
Good picture.....before his terrible sunburn.
The fence along the coast where we walked to the beginning of the trail.
The lighthouse at Fort Amherst.
In the distance, Cabot Tower, which some of you may recognize.
Interesting muti-leveled photo.
The ruins of a gunning station from WWII.
The first of several engines......
The beginning of the trail. This was the worst part of the hike. It was very steep.
He commands the weather.
A brief rest.
A look out onto the coast.
The angle makes their position look treacherous.
Fiddling.
A long descent through the forest
A manmade? rock extension separating the sea from a small freshwater lake.
Engine #2.
We took a long break by the water.
The wading pool is nice and cool...........
Behind him, the wreckage of a ship from more than fifty years ago.
It was hot!
Several boats, in fact, have crashed here.
We took a small detour to a mini-peninsula about a kilometer long called Small Point. Along the whole thing, it is never wider than fifteen meters. We named it Fecal Point, because it smells of seagull shit.
We were high enough to see the detail below the water.
The community of Blackhead, which we passed through.
The final leg of our journey was more inland, on large plains with very little trees. It was later in the day, and fog surrounded us. If it wasnt' for the fog in this photo, you would be seeing a lake and the land beyond it.
The third engine we found was in an abandoned car. Forgive me for not taking pictures of the actual engine.
Interesting pose.
FOG!!!!
We had left a car at Cape Spear to drive home with. The clouds were beautiful on the way back home.
