Salad

As usual, I only blog regularly when I have alot of work to do. In this case it's a bunch of readings to read, trawl pubmed for literature, a shitload of data to analyze (so what's new right) and my immunology textbook to pore over since I've practically given back everything to my lecturers. We just killed 5 mice the other day and I'm just looking at the data we acquired in despair .. I think I'll go mad when we eventually increase the mice number to 20 or 50.

I don't have anything particularly interesting to write, but I thought I should write down a salad dressing that I saw demonstrated (ala aunty cooking show) on TV before going off to work one morning. I really like it as it's a change from the usual balsamic vinegar-olive oil dressing that I do, the difference is in the addition of mustard, sugar and lemon juice to the balsamic vinegar-olive oil concoction so it tastes more tangy/savoury (?) .  The cooking demonstrator/aunty claims that the addition of mustard helps to make the olive oil based dressing stick to the salad better instead of concentrating at the bottom of the salad bowl. I don't know about that .. my dressing still sticks to the bottom of the bowl. I don't usually take mustard, but I like it here.

Anyway I realised that there's nothing I like to eat on the cafeteria menu tomorrow, so I thought I would make a salad with baby spinach, ham (apparently bacon goes better with this dressing according to the cooking demonstrator/aunty but it was abit too late at night to be smelling bacon grease), tomatoes and toasted pine nuts (my latest thing, courtesy of the refrigerator clearing Roths before they left) with the dressing and pepper to taste, for lunch tomorrow, and clear the refrigerator at the same time. Even former-thousand-island-faithful Win liked the dressing and kept snitching the ham to eat. Bah. Having said that I suspect I will end up going over to the cafeteria to get a bread stick or something to go with it .. I NEED MY CARBS!

I really like the pine nuts. Maybe we should have a regular stash in the freezer.

Looking at this picture again, I'm suddenly reminded of
nuanda77's petrified bread salad a while back :).

And I realised I just blathered a whole post on salad dressing.
