Winifred half-woke to a tickle along her cheekbone, instinctively raising her hand to brush away whatever it was, knuckles lightly tapping the end of a nose. The rhythm of air fluttering the tips of her sleep-tousled hair momentarily changed, though it resumed with only a slight snuffle and shifting--the nose now in her ear.
"Mmmmm... you are heavy," she murmured, as her bed mate languidly stretched along her back, limbs draping over her shoulder and hip. "And you are taking most of the bed." A flick of tongue against the edge of her ear woke her the rest of the way. "How presumptuous of you." Her tone was affectionate, if a bit exasperated.
His rumbling snort was the only reply, however. She pushed up to sitting, blanket falling away to reveal one bare shoulder and the pale curve of a breast, and glanced over. His eyes opened a crack, gleaming with interest.
"Oh, no," Winifred arched a raven brow. "I shall have no begging. It is very early."
His silent, steady, hopeful regard broke her resolve.
She smiled and stroked his cheek with one finger. "Very well... as I am now fully awake."
"Mrrrow." He hopped up and trotted over to the doorway, sleek black tail straight up in anticipation.
Slipping a linen shift over her head and following, she sighed to herself, sparing a glance for her other bed mate. He rolled over, dragging the covers with him, and gently began snoring once more.
Hrothbert's cat, indeed.
