Gentle Readers,
Yesterday was up and down. The highs included running into Kira-Lynn on my way home and having a lovely chat and a good turn out at fencing with plenty of practice stringering. The lows included feeling like utter crap for most of the day at work and getting a parking ticket down town becuase I forgot to put out my parking pass.
So, I get to practice haning onto the good straws and letting the bad ones go.
Anyway, I am feeling much more confident with the stringering. The main problem seems to be doing the actions smoothly enough and remembering the triggers. If I do no do the correct actions I leave myself open.
For example, if I do not remember to step with the left foot when stringering within, I'm leaving myself without the option of moving forward and I'm stuck too far to the right to do the passere. If I let my blade follow my opponents down and around when I stringer then I leave myself totally open to the counter attack either to the body or (more frequently) to the forearm.
If when attempting the stringer I do not get contact, extend in third no matter what.
This actually also fits well with the little piece of Silver that I practiced with Etienne last night. Silver says if you make an attempt to put a thrust by and do not make contact, Immediately step to the left and thrust. To mix this with the Stringering, what I need to do is check for the contact on the stringer and if there is none, then step farther to the left and extend with a thrust bowing my body and hitting below the arm.
I think I'll have to add that to the flow chart.
