I think, somehow, a mix of both? Which basically comes down to the place is incredibly hypocritical, piling on one person for saying something remotely offensive and then saying equally offensive things about something else. Plus I get tired of reading crappy write-ups of the same, like, three topics over and over again, buried under a bunch of really annoying off-topic posts, write-ups that rip off the style of much funnier, more successful write-ups, and so on.
At least there's been a significant decrease in the "WHY IS THIS NOT IN RAGE_FREE *repeat 50 times*" posts.
I dunno, I wouldn't be so quick to characterise the comm as just one bunch of people. There's certainly that element of people eager to prove their enlightenment, and consequently those that are eager to watch them slip up as seems to be the case here.
Eh, I'm not eager to watch them slip up. I mean, if I were eager to watch, then I'd actually read the community still. I've just really lost any desire unless there appears to be some kind of small, kind of funny stupid going on.
I think I am being too jaded though, because I did forget until now another reason why I tend to avoid it. I think just because so much of it really disgusts me. Like, I have trouble reading about things that just turn my stomach, like that post about the nice guy who went on and on about how women should be trained to want to have sex with different men, or stuff about rape, or people being homophobic or transphobic or anything else. I just have gotten to the point where, ugh, it just sickens me to read about these jerks, so I also am not keen on reading about how jerkish these jerks are.
Ah I have to confess I love reading the Nice Guy posts because it's fun watching them pseudo-intellectualise about why they're not getting laid.
But the horrible shit that got posted? Yeah, that definitely got depressing after a while. And with you on the dogpiling thing too, I should have said that in my last comment. I'm pretty sure about 50% of the time, people do it for appearances sake too like "LOOK! LOOK EVERYONE! SEE HOW ENLIGHTENED I AM! LOOK AT ME!" There was always something a little self congratulatory about that which really annoyed me.

I think I spend most of my time just making a sad face so...I'd rather avoid the misery.
