Grandbaby Progress Report

Greetings from Yorkshire!

Caro and I got a call last week from our son Christopher, asking us to come up right away. Suzanne was having Braxton Hicks contractions that were threatening to head into false labour and both of them were scared, this being her first pregnancy and 37 years old to boot. She and Baby (and Christopher) are all fine now, but she was in the hospital for two days, mostly to monitor Baby. Caro and I have been here for emotional support and to help them get things more prepared just in case Baby decides to come early or there are other problems and Suzanne is ordered to be on bedrest. BH contractions aren't considered to be something to worry about very much, just something to watch.

Other than that, the pregnancy has been smooth and uneventful. She's at 20 weeks now; Baby is due on 9 January 2005. Quickening (when she first felt the baby move) was two weeks ago, so we're extra happy to be here to feel that. They've chosen not to find out the gender of the baby and have requested that if it is seen by an ultrasound tech or the like to not even have it noted in the chart. They are very big on gender neutrality and want to try to raise their child as free from gender bias as possible. They plan to choose a gender ambiguous name like Drew or Kelly, to have ambigious clothes, toys, et cetera. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

The Princess Diaries 2 is #4 at US box offices two weeks after its release; we'll all pleased about that. Thank you to those of you who have seen it or plan to. It was a fun film to do: Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway, no makeup, no prosthetics, no armor, no wheelchair.

Happy (belated) Birthday to Deb Gibson, Billy Boyd, and J. August Richards! May you all enjoy your annual trip around the sun!!
