A nice quiet end to the weekend

Nina loved Dommie and Dom at first sight, so Al & Suzanne made sure we had their cell numbers, knew where everything was, et cetera, then took off for I-don't-know-where. I know that Al really really liked that stretch of beach around the house George rented for Friday's party; perhaps he took Suzanne out there. Dom and I told them take their time, neither of us has to be up early tomorrow.

The kids had so much fun playing with each other and the toy poodle, Bella (the co-star of Al's Poodle Hat album cover) that we didn't even have to watch Beauty and the Beast again. I mentioned to Dom that Al & Suzanne also have a cockatiel, and Dom thought it would be great fun to attempt to teach the bird a new phrase. We decided on "You came in those pants?" -- from the Star Wars game where you put "pants" into assorted lines from the films, as in "Watch where you're pointing those pants!" "The pants are strong with you." and of course my very favorite, "You came in those pants? You're braver than I thought." This line also has, em, special meaning for Al & I. So we attempted to teach it to BoBo (I'm pretty sure that's his name). He raised his crest and bobbed his head and dialated & constricted his pupils, so we know he was excited and paying attention. I just wish I could see the looks on Al's and Suzanne's faces when/if he first says it!

We put the kids to bed, both in Nina's crib, which is plenty big. They snuggled together like a couple of puppies and fell asleep fairly quickly. Dom and I went back out to the living room and talked for awhile, but were pretty drowsy ourselves. Caring for two toddlers for several hours can do that to a person. Dom wondered if Al & Suzanne would mind if we slept in their bed rather than just crashing on the couch, and I said I didn't think so, especially since we told them to stay out as late as they wanted.

And yes, I remembered to take Bella outside and make sure she took care of all her business before we went to bed.
