I need to learn to communicate with people better, get stuff done, etc. All that crap. Not gonna go ranting about shit in this entry, though. I don't think you people deserve another rant.
I have done some cool putzing around with the Castlevania hack. I found the place where the locations of most of the status bar data (and some other crap) are stored, so I can go rearranging that if I want. I still haven't decided exactly how I'll pull that off. I'm throwing around ideas as to what I can do, and they're all related to getting good use out of the status bar palette (since I can't go changing the onscreen colors midframe without an unnecessarily large amount of 6502 assembly knowledge). I've started showing it to other people a bit more, to get their opinions, input, etc. Which I'll need very much, since I suck at drawing graphics. Now, if I can figure out what the data surrounding this location data is, do some moving around of crap...I could pull off some very nice things.
I have the breakdown of how the music data for the two square waves (main sound channels) is setup, now I need to figure out the triangle wave (main bass channel). I don't think it's that much different...I'm guessing that it doesn't have all the volume and pitch options that the sqaure waves have (since, well, the triangle wave only has ONE volume) and, according to other people that have tried poking around with the music, the noise "drum" data is in there too. I can and WILL (I'm making sure of it!) fool around with this data this weekend. It is imperative that I do, so that I can keep a good pace of work on this project.
Oh, and here, this needs to be thrown out there:
Compare those with shots from how the Castlevania ROM started out...
Critique my changes as you will and such. Yeah.
