the moon

The dog barked from the other side of the door. I sighed as I got up and made my way to the origin of that annoying dog sound. “All right, all right,” I said. Haley let out one more high-pitched yip, with a hint of frustration. “I hear you!” I snapped opening the door that she hastily flooded through the moment she could fit. The right side of the French door whined as I closed it, quickly at first, but then something caught my eye. Burning brightly in the sky directly above me was the moon. Everything froze for a moment. Brad Paisley sang “And it’s a good night, / To be out there soaking up the moonlight” ironically in the distance somewhere. I noticed the beautiful blanket of deep blue the moon was surrounded in, to the left of it was a giant tree that’s branches yearned to touch the ivory globe. The dark grass seemed irrelevant, the streets were silent and abandoned, the lights of neighboring houses seemed dull. For a few moments, I looked at the moon, and knew it understood. I could knew this by the way it smiled.

what a good night.
