So having been unemployed for quite a while now (last work day at uni was October 1 2010, which is just over six months now), and having not done any work except for one day as an Election Official for the State Election, I decided to look around for some casual work. I found one for a warehouse assistant: warehouse person required to assist in off loading containers, packing orders, stocking shelves & other general duties, so I decided to check that out. I applied on Monday morning, got a call back not long after, and went in for a quick chat about the job. It would be quite a physical job, but I decided to give it a go.
Come Tuesday morning, I was up and out of bed before sunrise, getting ready for work, which was from 07:30 - 15:30. The work was quite physical, and included moving boxes and bags of stuff around, the use of pallet jacks, some use of hand operated forklifts, etc and by the end of the day, I was tired as fuck. That night, thinking about it, I decided nope, I wouldn’t be continuing on. One more day (today), and that was it. So I got in this morning, told the supervisor the news, worked the rest of the day, and I was gone. Why did I quit? Well, quite a few reasons. The pay wasn’t that great, though it probably wasn’t too bad for the kind of work, and I definitely have been pampered by the pay of uni work. The hours weren’t great, and because of transport issues, meant I had to be out of the house before 06:30. Physically, I must admit, it was quite tiring, and I don’t know if I really need to stress myself that much, considering I don’t actually need the money for rent/food/living expenses, etc. There wasn’t much mental exertion needed, and it would basically have been a dead end job. The job wasn’t really relevant to my degree or my interests either and wasn't giving me any relevant experience, so at the end of the day, all those factors added up, and therefore I quit. Back to being unemployed.
