I told you I could roast pumpkin seeds without burning the apartment down.

Happy Halloween, John. Are you and Anna dressing up this year?

Same to you, Miss Branigan.

She insisted, yeah. She's Raggedy Anne, I guess. Some sort of doll. It's pretty cute.

I'm a fireman.

Oh, that's terribly cute! Well, her costume, anyway. I'm sure yours is quite nice.

Eh. I feel sort of weird about it, but it's all I could think of.

You could have matched Anna and been Raggedy Andy.

Do you remember Halloween? I mean, do you have memories of Halloween? I do, but Daniel doesn't.

The yarn wig looked pretty itchy.

I don't have very clear memories of anything except...you know, learning. And the past couple years, of course, since They left. Sometimes I'll get flashes of things that aren't quite related, like remembering what the beach was supposed to look like, or the ferry in the canal, or the fish uncle Karl had, but not events. There just isn't there, and if I try to look too closely, the rest starts to unravel into raw facts with no images, and that's just too much to take.

Um. Sorry. No, I don't remember Halloween.

No, it's fine. Thank you for answering. I wonder sometimes what kinds of memories people here have. That's how it is for me, too. Some of my memories are very vivid, but I know my mind was filling in the blanks for a lot of things.

I hope you're having a good Halloween, then. I took a picture of Daniel's costume so he can't deny he dressed up like the White Rabbit later.

I'm not sure I'm the best person to gauge kinds of memories by. I'm sort of an odd case. Ask Anna sometime, though. I don't think she'd mind. She remembers people, at least, more than I do.
