Last night
cgyrask and I met up with some friends at the Aladdins Kasbah in aveneda. The evening started out really well, we showed up about 8:30 for our rez met with our friends and enjoyed our conversation. The service staff was friendly and pretty efficient. This wasn't just a dinner, it was a special night put out by the resturant, $60 a person for a set menu, music and belly dancing, Not a bad deal we thought.The music started sometime between 9-9:30, it wasn't bad.. just completely deafening, the resturaunt is fairly small and they were playing for an out door venue of greater size. Still, we manage to enjoy ourselves and appatizers begin to trickle out of the kitchen. An older lebanese lady from one of the other groups kept getting up to dance which was cute, and funny becuase the singer looked like he really wanted her to sit down. Conversation (for us) pretty much was non existant with the music playing, we couldn't hear a thing! Time kept passing and passing, the single belly dancer (who was quite good and enjoyable to watch) showed up around 10-10:30ish. danced around the resturant to a few songs then left. at this point dinner still hadn't arrived, everyone had eaten only a few small appatizers. It seemed that this event was to be a very long long night with small amounts of food brought out every so often. Truthfully we weren't expecting to be there for so many hours without actually eating anything. Aroung 11:30pm we managed to get one of the staff to bring us our bill so we could pay. we were tired, deaf and still hungry. Just as we paid they brought out a plate of meats, chicken, beef and some sort of soft meat. We stayed a few mins to smaple that, and it was really very good but this party had no signs of stopping so we did decide to depart. We felt a little bad leaving (early?) but by that point the music had just worn us out and there was no food.. no chance of conversation so we left for home. We got in jsut after Midnight. One day, we might consider trying the place again but not on one of their special nights and we'd only order from the menu. The cost for the evening for substance, not worth it.. now if you take the cost over time it seems like a good deal if you decide to go to this in the future, go out to eat before and bring ear plugs so you can enjoy the music.
