the holiday.

midnight lover.
eyelid kisser.
back tickler.
how do you win with me every time?
every single joke and awkward conversation starter?
"you're beautiful the way you are."
babe, you've got a way about you.

impossible inamorato.
the eyes you kiss aren't mine.
my back is just at your convenience.
but you come to me when i turn away.
you think about me when i'm not near.
your deep, brown eyes look at me for that two seconds longer than they should.
so what is going on here?

patient paramour
we have time, not much, but time can stop when we're together.
the strings tied to you aren't affecting me
but when i look up and you're centimeters from my frame.
noses almost touching
and you look into me so far i forget how to maintain my barriers.
the way my heart pumps faster for you
aches for you, sweet one
that affects me more than i can bear.

be my summer warmth
the breath that escapes my lungs when i jump in cold water.
the fresh cotton covers at three in the afternoon.
i'll be your arcane afliction
your notes in page bindings.
and together we'll be rives' poem "kite"
making the stars jealous they can't be us
when we lay beneath them each night.

"just so you know
my weird mind wonders
and my brave heart breaks
i've nailed some milestones
but i've made mistakes
cause i've got more faults than a map of california earthquakes
i'm taking a nap beneath your covers
wake me if you like me
wake me if you need me
wake me if you need another poem
your once and future lover
has made (her)self at home"
-'kite'
