Summer Reading List Meme: List three fics that you have read this summer and enjoyed and would recommend to others as part of their August Required Reading List, and pick five others to do the same.
1. i think i love you Scrubs fic. It's JD/Cox slash, but DON'T let that scare you off. It's not smutty or graphic, it is hilarious and it's the single most in-character Scrubs fic I've ever read. JD POV.
So I'm walking down the hall and I'm singing to myself in my head. I'm known to do this. I'm even told I have a 'I'm singing to myself in my head' face. Elliot's the one that gave it that name. I would have chosen something more succinct. Something like, my head singing face. Though. Perhaps not. Because then images of heads floating around singing to each other start infiltrating my brain, and how is a doctor supposed to concentrate when that's going on?
2. Fairmeade Stargate Atlantis. Sheppard/Weir. Long, plotty, and more than a little angsty. Great original characters, and shining moments for canon characters. The Carson characterization in particular is spot on and heartbreaking. Grammar and punctuation could sometimes use a bit of polish, but overall it's so well done that the errors are easy to ignore. Caution though, this story deals with adult themes and religion. But it does so without being preachy (no pun intended) or smaltzy.
3. About A Girl Firefly. River/Mal. Adult. Should I have to say more? But I will anyway. OW. Punch in the stomach River angst.
She opens her eyes and she is awake and she closes them and she is less-than-awake. Never anything else because the whispering never stops, goes in one ear and can't get out the other because they cut her apart and twisted her up and now things get stuck.
... Dude, everybody else is breaking the rules! So, two Gilmore Girls fics:
4. A Study of Motherhood in Black and Gray Emily. Gen. Angst and introspection.
They have a secret language, Rory and Lorelai, and Emily is jealous. Emily and her mother had pearls and panty-hose, high heels and a good taste in alcohol. Emily and Lorelai have nothing except arguments.
5. Postcards From the Edge Luke/Lorelai, with lots of hurt!angry!Luke and UST and the citizens of Stars Hollow being... the citizens of Stars Hollow. It was written for the Lukesmut ficathon so it is eventually NC17.
