and once again I am glad I'm not actually American.
not that the situation here is perfect, especially in the military. But there's progress. And overall it's a lot mroe live and let live. even my parents, who are very catholic and conservative think they should be left alone. Marriage is another issue for them, but at least they're bitching more the monetary issues than anything else. And they're bitching about married couples who get tax cuts et al., too. I like to think of them as equal oportunity bitchers, er...moaner... er.. complainers. *phew*.
But still, it's a mirror verse. they could have both of them as civilians or something. that's what sci-fi is for. pushing the envelope. I bet there was a lot fuss about kirk and uhura, too, back when it first happened. Hell, for all I care make them their evil twins. as long as they're kissing, I don't care much. Sides, bad is hot. and they could have a cute little scene in which Jack and Daniel (or even Daniel and Cam) stare at each other for a little while and go eeew. We slashers know better.
But conservativism is a political force in the country. As is political correctness. If it's going to offend the sensiblities of a certain segement of the population, they won't put it on television.
well, their "political correctness" offends my sensibilities. and somebody is always going to be offended. I guess they just don'T care asmuch about the issue.
*sigh* this whole issue always makes me boil with rage. and I don't even quite understand why. my parents think I'm a freak. a freak who is in danger of becoming a lesbian. I don't think the awkwardness of explaining to them what is so good about slash is worth correcting them. sides, it's not even really about slash. but *shurg* there are worse things to care about. although it's certainly not doing anything for my blood pressure.
