There are a lot of typos in your story, which I have been valiantly overlooking because your writing is really great and I am just trying to enjoy the story. However, I feel compelled to point that out the word you are looking for in the first sentence is not "come" but "cum", which is the latin word for "with," as in "magna cum laude". The "con-" prefix in many words also comes from "cum", as in "conjuction" (from cum+iacere, throw together) and "convention" (cum+venere, come together).
I do have to admit, in the natural history of mistakes, yours is a curious one, as most people acquire the a-cum-b phrase from written English. I suppose it must be sneaking into spoken English. I find this rather odd.
I'm also disturbed by your use of "splatter" rather than "spatter", but that's probably because I watch "Cold Case Files" obsessively. Otherwise, I'm sure I wouldn't notice or care.
I wanted to write a murder mystery on the Enterprise a few years back but never followed through, so I am glad you did it because it needed to be done, dammit.
Also, I think you write quite well. Thank you for sharing your talent.
