Glad you're having some productive writing time! Is your MA in something writing-related?

I thought my boyfriend was "taken" when I first met him, too, because he was cute and nice and normal and I'd become extremely cynical because pretty much everyone else I'd been meeting that I was slightly interested in WAS taken. But it turns out he was single... I don't think he was giving off any kind of vibes at all -- it was all in my head that he wasn't available. Who knows what's going on with your coworker, though -- your workplace sounds like a hotbed of gossip so it wouldn't be surprising if some wrong information worked its way through the gossip chain.

Hm, yes, actually think it's more the gossip chain. People know I'm still friends with my ex-girlfriend, so I have a feeling that might have been misconstrued.

Yes, it's an MA in Literature. I'm really, really looking forward to it!

Yay for productive writing. I keep getting these little bursts of creativity, but all my muse wants to work on is the silly middle school play. I suppose it has potential, but it just seems so silly and ridiculous. Ah well, at least it's writing.

I hope your muse doesn't abandon you before you get done! :)

Hee! Nothing wrong with giving your silly side a little excercise!

Don't you worry about my muse! One of the great things about the story right now is that I feel like I know where everything goes now. Every other stage of the story has been spent worrying that I won't know what comes next. Now I do! It's great!

"Back to work next week and my MA starts the week after."

Bah... you literature student. =P

What sort of stuff are you interested in? Or, to put it another way, what are you going to be researching for your MA (if indeed it is a research masters and not a taught masters)?

The first year is taught. It's just a foundations module. We're starting with bibliography.

As for the research I have to do (it'll be a third of the course), I haven't decided yet, but I might return to my favourite topic - Greimassian Semiotics - if nothing else appeals.

Semiotics. Wow... that's pretty hardcore. When they introduced us to de Saussure in first year, I decided that semantics made my brain hurt, so I dropped it and went down the historical linguistics route when we had to specialise - only to discover that we were only just shaking off the man's damned influence there too. I still don't understand Greimas's rectangle. If you can, then I take my metaphorical hat off to you.

Nah, I think I've only done a simplified version so far (I remember squares but no rectangles). My dissertation mostly dealt with just the three layers of meaning idea (Deep, Thematic, Manifestation) and then applied it to Law, while combining it with some of the "Law and Literature" field theories.

So me reckons you can keep your metaphorical hat on.

Well, if you say so. If you think this is the best writing you could do for an orwellian novel about talking cats and hats, I'll take your word for it.

Glad you had a good time last night!

Hee! You make me giggle, Alt Cap'n.

You told me you only had two tickets to graduation, and yet you managed to get most of the Firefly crew along with ye!

Do you think that crew is the type to wait around for tickets?

Lots of NB's classmates turned out to be very accomodating when we asked 'em for tickets.

Which side of the Voldemarriage debate did you take?

j_forias January 28 2007, 10:08:19 UTC
Debate was the wrong word. It was more passionate agreement from both sides with a general principle.

That looks like lawyerspeak to me. Whether it means

a)both
or
b)I was too drunk to remember such silly details

I can't tell.

*turns off lawyerspeak*

We were both agreeing (loudly) that Harry would marry Voldemort. :)
