The Number of the Beast
This morning I listened to an episode of Wait Wait Don't Tell Me on NPR. They were doing a best of 2005 show, and I heard something I missed. I think it's worth sharing...
Apparently, some scholars now think that the number of the beast is actually 616 and not 666. So, someone on the show mentioned that 616 is an area code in Michigan and joked that the Beast is in Ann Arbor. Well, the following week, they did a show in Ypsilanti and they apologized because they realized that if you want to call the beast, you wouldn't call Ann Arbor, you'd call Grand Rapids. The following week they got lots of letters because it turns out that the day this was announced on the air, George W. Bush just happened to be visiting Grand Rapids...
I love it! I always knew Michigan's Bible Belt was evil, and that George W. Bush is evil, but how great to have it confirmed on NPR...
