rain (5/?)

Dark hair flew about her head like a halo as she flung the door closed with force that might as well have unhinged it. Her amber eyes flashed with a swirling blend of anger and pain, the breath catching in her throat with the sting of the tears in her eyes. She leaned her back against the solid wooden door, taking comfort in its coolness.

"No," a single syllable uttered through clenched teeth. Sheridan inhaled sharply, so as not to show that she was shaking whole even to the empty hallway, and tried to relax allowing her lithe body to slide down to the floor. A sleeve wiped at the tear that were slowly beginning to fall then her fist slammed into the reddish parquet beneath her.

A helpless sigh escaped her lips as the memory filtered into her head unbidden, settling before her mind's eye. She bit her lip and let her eyes slide closed, tired of fighting.

Her back pressed into the cold wall as she tried to peek unseen around the corner, her fingers struggling to dig into the wallpaper, to keep her upward.

"You couldn't be more screwed if you tried," a male voice rasped between bouts of laughter.

"You wish," a deep, silky female one replied. Sheridan shuddered - Dani.

"Ah, well, I recall a friend of mine telling me that guilty pleasures weren't what they used to be," he sniggered.

The young woman's voice was completely drained of laughter when she spoke again.

"You know what the problem is? What her problem is? Boundaries! I swear, the only thing she knows about boundaries is how to overstep them!"

"Well, cope with it," her male companion chuckled.

Pressed against the wall outside, the raven-haired girl swallowed, her eyes clenched shut. The breath she had been holding exploded out, giving her the push she needed to move away from the wall.
