oh, dear sweet valentine
it is for you I pine
the sap
flows thick in vein
a sticky embrace
that snakes the heart
oh, my blood red valentine
your silence is tined
like needled leaves
prick from a bow
and arrow’s stick
under quivering skin
oh, disingenuous valentine
always yours and never mine
erotically denied the skies
no wings, only branches
rings of hard bark
hugging knotty wood
as the scales
of jilted cones
sing with the wind
in a fall from the tree
kissing the soil
with a rosy
thud!
