I was inspired by Mike Roffman to do this. So the year is in its latter half and by this time, I usually have a slew of albums and movies to choose from for my own unimportant top ten list. But this year is slim pickings. I've only heard five albums and seen five films that I'd put in my list thus far. For the film industry, there's still hope since they save most of the good crap for the Christmas season, but I can't think of any album releases I'm looking forward to other than TV On The Radio's "Return To Cookie Mountain." Anyway, here it is:
TOP FIVE ALBUMS OF THE YEAR (so far):
1. Ghostface Killah - "Fishscale"
2. Destroyer - "Destroyer's Rubies"
3. Belle and Sebastian - "The Life Pursuit"
4. James Hunter - "People Gonna Talk"
5. Bruce Springsteen - "We Shall Overcome: The Seger Sessions"
I also enjoyed Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere" and The Flaming Lips' "At War With Mystics." Depdending on how the rest of the year goes, maybe they'll make the top ten as well.
TOP FIVE FILMS OF THE YEAR (so far):
1. "Little Miss Sunshine"
2. "Brick"
3. "The Descent"
4. "United 93"
5. "Superman Returns"
That's pretty sad considering "Little Miss Sunshine," "Brick," and "The Descent" were all technically completed in 2005, but saw no American distribution until this year.
On top of that, I thought "Talladega Nights" and "Monster House" were pretty decent, although everything else has been somewhat of a disappointment, particularly "X-Men 3: X-Men United," "Nigthwatch," and most nortiously, "Lady In The Water."
In other news, I'm moving to Chicago in a month to pursue a career in playwriting. A lot of my peers are eager to leave FSU, but since I've only been in the theatre program for two years, I kind of feel like I just got started. Still, I worked on a ton of great shows there and was proud of my work. I'll miss the place, but I think I'll enjoy the Windy City.
Well, thanks to everyone at FSU for giving me an awesome four years. I'll be visiting you all sometime in the Fall.
Just something to think about.

Oh yeah, and I'll be in NPR until October 1st. Give me a call if you want to hang out.
