My house is on the market
I know you say it is not my house
I haven't lived there for eleven years
but I remember when we first moved in
Helene was six, Justine three
it was a small house on a big block of land
the girls shared a large bedroom
we fixed up the kitchen in pine and lime green
we bought a spotty dog who was part of the family for twelve years
the girls could ride to school nearby
I finished off my degree and diploma
we welcomed with great delight a son into the family
when Christian was one we moved out and extended the house
a year later a little sister, Amy was born
a much loved younger sister always wanting to be a big sister
we put in a swimming pool and enjoyed many hours of swimming and entertaining
our two nephews lived with us after the tragic death of their father
our beautiful Purdie died in the ferns
Helene moved out and studied and travelled
Justine went north and met her partner, Bevan
she came back to study and bought me a little black puppy
Jus had our beautiful grandson, Tim
In that same year we sold the house
there were problems with the firm he worked with
though the greatest problem was his own
I remember moving out after nineteen years
many tears were shed for the memories of happy days
in my house, the house of my children's happy childhood
