Bed & Breakfast at The Blue Ridge Mountain Inn.

Sep 02, 2007 17:02

For our 1 year Anniversary and our "summer vacation" we went to the Blue Ridge Mountain Inn. It was a great & scary trip we'll soon never forget.

The Drive over.
We hit traffic right outside of Chris' house, which didn't start the trip off well. After half an hour sitting in traffic & construction we started making our way down 29. We had Mr. T's (Chris' dad) TomTom which screwed us up once once, but was a great help none the less. That one time Tom messed us up it said 'turn left' and we did, but it wasn't right. So we had to turn around pretty much in someone's driveway. So we find one and back in and start to pull out when I see behind us a potpourri of dogs heading to toward the car. And in this potpourri of dogs were the largest dogs, a great dane & a collection of smaller dogs. I counted at least 4. The surrounded the car and we just couldn't move since Chris might drive over a dog. We were stuck! I suggest honking the horn to let the owner know we were being bombarded with their band of dogs. The honking worked, and soon we were off on our way. The traffic jam was actually helpful because we arrived at 2. We are suppose to go to the pottery store and tell the people we are here.

Check-In & our first dinner.
Heather, one of the owners greets us, as The Mitchells, and I sourly inform her there is only one Mitchell in the group. She drives us up to the house were we will be staying. She has brought her cute little 3 year old daughter, and as well Heather just found out she is having another little girl. She gives us a tour of the relaxing house. We see our room, with our Wine package. And everything is just too cute and perfect.

To the right you can see our Wine Lover's Package. It was set up really cute, had confetti hearts and a note included.

We walk around outside and the house while Heather makes us a fresh batch of Snicker Doodles, Chocolate Chip and another type of cookies.

This was from the sitting room.

Outside Shots:

These weren't great pictures, as it was sunny. But the place was very relaxed and pretty.

On to dinner! We had planned Hank's Smokehouse. We ordered Ribs for two!
Ribs For Two - $32.00
Choose from Dry or Wet and served with cole slaw and choice of two sides and two house salads. We each had a beer, as they didn't have a pitcher! (LAME!) For dessert we slipt a Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie. After dinner we headed back and hit up the hot tub! It was fun for about 15 minutes until I just became to hot and sweaty. We went back to the room and watched Food Network and drank wine in bed. Sweet. Early bed time since breakfast was at 9am!

Our 1 year was spent...
For breakfast we had a scrumptious array of cheese, meats, fruits and scones. Heather made cranberry & orange scones which were light and airy and mouth watering goodness. We had little bowels of mixed fruit and assorted mix of the other things. After eating breakfast it felt like Thanksgiving. Despite wanting to be in a food coma and take a nap we had plans! To the Stone Mountain Vineyards we go. Heather says she's heard its a gravel road, one way. She did not know that it was going up a mountain. And neither did I. The ride was painfully scary. And it was one of those "you can't turn back" rides too. We traveled up a mountain for about our longest 15 minutes ever. There were no sides. Nothing to stop you from plummetting to your death if you made one wrong move. Chris did an excellent job driving as it was scary, no doubt. I couldn't even take a picture of how scary it was. I was that scared. Frozen in fear. We arrive at the very pretty vineyard. But I knew if what goes up must come down. And we'd have to go back down that 'hill'. Unfortunately, the ride killed it for me. But Chris was able to enjoy it all. We started off with a tasting of some wines, which were alright. Not worth that damn drive. We bought a bottle of Maquillage and went outside and soaked in the view.

From the parking lot

From the deck.

The Deck itself.

Cheers we made it up the mountain! Yes my eyes are closed. It was sunny, and hot. After snacking on some goat cheese & crackers we tackle on the Mountain. We encounter 3 cars going up to the winery and we pass with success while riding down on the brakes. And of course we make it down, thank God! Ya I prayed, that bad. We head back to the B&B and what to do??
There's some scrabble. I've never played scrabble and I'm playing a Townsend. The "Nice Townsend" at least. So we break out the rest of our wine and we get to it. Now I've never played and I was getting sucky tiles. I had 2 F's and 2 I's at one point. I had the Z. We made some mistakes and allowances to make the game a bit more fun.

Chris in deep thought.

Final Board

The final score.
Now you can see at one point I was ahead. 188 Chris - 162 Katie. I had 1 tile left at the end of the game. Go me :o) We head upstairs and I take a nap and Chris watches more Food Network.
7pm was reservations at The Lafayette. We got very lost and managed to go through the same intersection 3 times, that cops were managing because the traffic lights were out. We arrive a few minutes late but we did not wait. Ahh small town, the joys! We order appetizers and Chris picks a bottle of wine out. He has a
Shrimp Cocktail | $10
Old Bay steamed shrimp with spicy
cocktail sauce
I have:
Crab Martini | $12
lump crab in a sauce of butter and cream over
garlic croutons served in a martini glass.
He had the better appetizer.

The bottle of wine was prefect & both of us enjoyed it. I had Tournedos of Beef which was cut from the tenderloin, grilled and topped with bleu cheese butter. Of course, rare. Chris ordered a special, 16 oz strip steak seasoned and was kickin! We both agreed ours was the best. But mine was, it had bleu cheese!! hehe. For dessert I had the Chocolate Lovin’ Spoonful Cake which was a giant slice of a truffle. OMG! Chris had a carrot cake. I had the better dessert. We get home and fall into a food coma and crash. Well try too. It was the worst night of sleep ever. poor Chris just couldn't sleep. And I'd awaken a lot as well being hot or cold or just felt it was time to wake up. At one point I caught Chris saying "No, no no..." I asked what he was doing and he replied with "I have to tell the people what they are doing is not right." Or something like that. He does not remember it.

Sunday, Check-out
Sooner than we had wanted it was time for breakfast. Baked Apple, fruit and cheeses this time. The baked apple was a full apple in a dumpling. It was so cute & yummy. I was not feeling well, and so we skipped on a tasting/tour of Prince Michel :o( Sorry Chris.
Chris brought us a pair of large red wine glasses. and I paid the bill and we were off at 10:45 :*( We arrived at 1in Burke and we were tired! I showed my parents what we bought from the pottery store!

I bought the mug, and chip/dip combo for me. The berry bowl is for my mom. The wine chalices were from our package.

Chris brought the two red mugs for his parents and the green mug for himself. He picked green so his would match mine when they are joined together again.

The two bigger glasses are the ones Chris brought and the two smaller ones are from our tasting.

My flowers that I received on Thursday were beautiful still!

I very much recommend this bed & breakfast. Though it's in the mountains and driving/parking is not what we were use too, it was enjoyable. :o)
