I heard on the news tonight that all of Hollywood is in a panic because the Screen Actors' Guild awards might not be immune from writers' strike woes after all. It seems that the show can go off without a hitch so long as the networks and studios don't pick up the tab for their respective celebs' stylists. It's news to me that this was not an out of pocket celeb expense to begin with. God forbid an actor or actress making millions upon millions of dollars should have to reach into their own very deep pockets to pay for someone to make them look good. This, when there are those who can't even afford to go to a doctor to get the most basic of medical care because they can't afford health insurance.

Message to the entertainment industry in general: Perhaps if a celebrity is worth $20 million to star in a crappy movie, or $1.5 million an episode for a 30 minute sitcom, of which there are 21 or 22 per season, it shouldn't be too unreasonable for them to foot their own fucking bills. If they can't pay out of pocket for a perk that benefits them as much as the publicity of looking good on the red carpet does, then what in the hell DO they spend their money on?

It's like the more money you have, the more free shit gets thrown at you. Just once I'd like a celebrity presenter at an awards show to, in lieu of accepting a gift bag for their 30 seconds of service, donate the cost to a charity or a homeless shelter or a free clinic. They don't need to reward their teams of assistants with the overpriced swag they get for free. Let them use their own damn money to do that with. Why give celebs swag at all? By making an appearance at an awards show they already get a ton of free publicity, which will only benefit them in the end anyway.

In other news, I took tomorrow off from work because Kim and Rob are taking me to Philly for a few days as my x-mas present. We're seeing Editors, Hot Hot Heat and Louis XIV at the Electric Factory tomorrow night and then doing another beer crawl on Saturday afternoon. Ayva's birthday was on the 8th, so her and Jamie are joining us for that and for a night of more drinking and dancing at a club Kim is dying to take me to on Saturday night.

When she called me before the holidays telling me she was at a loss as to what to get me, I told her all I really wanted was a weekend of fun. So, this is the weekend of fun and I'm raring to go.
