The Polar Bear is the only species that I can think of right now that has been placed on the endangered list for pure political reasons. Here are the facts:
1. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, average Alaskan temperatures are NOT climbing.
2. The total population is about 22,000 and stable.
3. The Nunavut government continues to allow hunters to kill up to 500 polar bears a year to keep populations under control and preserve other wildlife species the bears feed on.
4. Of the 13 separate polar bear populations in Canada, 11 are stable or increasing in number.
Currently Alaska has opened a law suit against the US because it claims the placing Polar bears on the endangered list is a political move and not one concerning wild life.
