I presented the following to rowers, parents, siblings, and coaches alike:
Good evening. For those who don’t know me, I am Danny Gale. I was a captain for the 2005-2006 season and will continue to help lead the team for the 2006-2007 season. As ridiculous as I may look tonight, Coach Fitzgerald pointed out at the picnic that this shows team spirit. At this point, I would like to take a moment to recognize a few rowers whose spirit and dedication were exceptional. In no particular order, they are Jeff Walton, Michelle Eboch, and Jeff Tsai.
For two consecutive years, Jeff Walton has been in the men’s lightweight four. They have been, for both years, the second ranked boat in the state. Jeff moved from two seat to stroke in the men’s lightweight four this year. He arrived early to practice daily to help set up for practice and often stayed late. Jeff has done an exemplary job of leading the team.
Another fantastic boat, the women’s lightweight eight, has been stroked for the last two years by Michelle Eboch. She also served as a captain for the 2005-2006 season. Michelle was always there when she was needed whether it was to rig or unrig boats, lead exercises, or just supervise.
Every day when I arrived for practice, without exception, Jeff Tsai was there. He was consistently the first person to the boat house and among the last to leave every day. He sat bow in the men’s first four this year. Jeff was always available to help with whatever came his way.
Jeff, Michelle and Jeff-Your teammates and I thank you and hope that you will continue to exhibit your unwavering commitment, dedication, and team spirit through the 2006-2007 season.
It was finished off by a standing ovation for the three recognised, an almost-teary hug from michelle, and a hearty handshake with walton.
I feel like i've done my good deed for today.
