Had a nice visit to Illinois last week for L'Thar and Julie's nuptials. Yay for cake and horses!
On Saturday
delayedneutron took
rydain and myself to Chicago to bum around the art museum.
rydain got to see loads of ancient Chinese art and artifacts, and I got to see Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keefe, and a surprise Diego Rivera. Also saw a teeny teeny tiny 10thC. engraving of St. Micheal and thought of
midnightranter. A++ would visit again. Also also also-- we ate lunch
here. Oh my gosh, if you are ever in Chicago you HAVE to go there! The borscht was out-of-this-world (vegetarian, too!), the tea kept right on flowing (what kind of tea was that? Where can I find it??), and the food was delicious. I was a bad Jew and got the 'Russian Peasant's lunch' of potatoes, sauerkraut, onions, and Russian Kielbasa. They have a very impressive vodka selection, too. I didn't partake this time, but perhaps next time. Om nom nom.
I am now the proud owner of a spinning wheel! It's a nice finished Ashford Traveler that I adopted from
aitai. The wheel needs to be re-strung, and a couple of parts need to be tightened up a bit, and then I can figure out how to spin on a wheel. :D
I've been using a drop-spindle for about 5 years; I'm told this gives me a bit of an advantage. Pictures at some point.
Made a delicious spicy duck salad for dinner last night. Really just a pan fried duck breast left to rest for a bit, then sliced and tossed in a ginger-citrus-chili dressing, and arranged artlessly on a bed of baby spinach. I would have taken a photo but our appetites got the best of us. It's a prefect light dinner for two, albeit a rare one since one duck breast runs $9-10 here.
Tonight I think we're having venison that was shot by a blind man.
