A package from my Secret Pal arrived yesterday! And because I am a moron, I let the batteries in the digicam die. So pictures will be delayed.
I got: some sock yarn! It looks to be hand painted a bit, with green, brown, blue and yellow over the cream-colored yarn. A set of DPNs to go with that. A necklace made by my pal, looks of be a disk of jasper (I think?) on a cord. I hearts it. Also a bag of hard candy and a spiffy card. ^_^ Thank you thank you, Secret Pal!
I had a good time at the SCA meeting last night. Well behaved little kids in garb make me happy. People seemed friendly. I'm going to help Mendel cook for Fibre, Fabric, and Fighting in November. Good stuff!
So now all I have to do is create a persona, pay for membership and start on some garb. Not necessarily in that order. I most picked a name last night after I got home and perused the Medieval names indexes, but I'm not sure it will be accepted as the given name I chose is the Russian form of my "real" first name. The byname I chose is Pavlova, a kind-of hats-off to my dad. So for now my first choice is Iuliia Pavlova, but today I'm going to find a second choice first name in case the Heralds disapprove of Iuliia.
As for garb, I found some helpful sites
here and
here, with patterns
here. The only problems are head wear and footwear-- they aren't mentioned. I'll ask the garb lady at next week's meeting for advice. I must say that I do like the look of those leather sandal-y/shoe-y shoes that I saw someone wearing last night, and have seen at Renn Faires.
And now I am off to find the perfect sock pattern.
