涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱 Ep. 1 x.x;

Dec 06, 2006 08:07

Time for first impressions. And just so you know, they are great.

Episode 1, or episode 0 (Meant to confuse ^^;), opened with an amateur singer. So to say, the opening theme for the first episode was purposely meant to be kinda ech. Not so much background music, nervous tones, the works. The ending theme was much more professional, of course, as you are brought back into the reality of what the series really is. (I'm assuming.)

The episode starts off with one of the main chatacters dressed in a bunnygirl costume waving a sign about cabbage being half-off. OMG THAT SUM CHEAP CABBAGE?!??!11 This, of course, confused the crap out of me. Not to mention the camera moved around like in those amateur films that you see in film festivals or home videos. The cameraman was narrating through the entire episode, noting various scene mistakes and discrepencies in the storyline. None of it was actual video footage, remember, this is all animation capturing the look and feel of such.

I'll only mention one giveaway as it becomes quite clear early on in the episode. This is not the actual storyline of the anime, but a "movie" created by the characters of the anime. The storyline in this movie progresses very quickly and skips around consistantly, featuring a few scenes that made me laugh so hard that I felt like I was gonna wet myself. Apparantly that girl in the bunnygirl outfit wore that for her mascot job at various local stores which have suffered loss of business to that new Walmart that was built. Yes, Walmart in fact IS invading Japan, and many wouldn't find this surprising in the least. This girl is actually a combat waitress from the furture, oooooo. And her secret mission is to protect a particular student from harm! Her mortal enemy, the evil witch magician that wants to drain his esper powers! LIEK OMG?!?!!!1!

Okay, coffee break. *sip* How are all of you this morning? Great? That's awesome! I'm feeling excellent myself. How do you like your coffee? I like mine strong with two sugars and cream. Or light and sweet, it depends on the season and my mood. Okay, okay. Let's get back onto the anime.

The characters' movie featured awesome special effects, including solid zigzaggy lightning effects emitting from your standard star wand. Not to mention blue, green, and purple beams coming from one very well experienced battle waitresses' eyes. That's her secret ultimate weapon, y'know! The evil magician has a talking cat on her shoulder that constantly begins to slip off. She, of course, constantly pushes the kitty back up and keeps talking as if it's not even happening, all nonchalant-like. The black, crookedly pointy hat she wears reminds me of Disgaea for some reason, and she's wearing a school girl's uniform underneath the black robes. She also has the power of mind control as well as shooting those really cool lightning bolts from her standard issue star wand.

The battle waitress and witch get into battle scenes three or four times in the episode, showing off their immense powers in combat. You gotta see it to believe it! I really don't want to give anything else away, but hell, this is one hilarious anime so far. If you don't want to download all the episodes in one go and just want to see the first episode for a taste, this following torrent link is for such:
[a.f.k.] The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - 01.avi
It's 175MB, so space shouldn't be a big issue if it was for all 14. There's less seeds for it than the whole package, but you can leave it running as you go to work or school and have something to look forward to when you get home.

Hehe, how nifty! As I finish writing this, the second episode is ready for viewing pleasure. Ja!
