Howdy kids!
Poor Valerie has apparently decided that it's up to her to keep me entertained. So in that vein, I went with her to the polls to vote yesterday for the presidential election (I couldn't, just went to watch). Not a lot of people crowding the town hall in Aubusson, but still exciting. Went back to her place to watch the results come in. I pretty much figured it would be Sarkozy and Royal since they were the only 2 of the 12 candidates I'd heard of since I've been over here. Holy fun political commentators. Just when I thought I got it, some other dude would interrupt and there'd be everyone talkng at once. No comprende >1 French dude at a time.
Tomorrow afternoon, going with Valerie to spend a few days with her sister and her family who live further south in a little town called St. Cere. I met the sister, brother-in-law, and niece when they came up here a few months ago. Daniel, the brother-in-law (seriously, it seems like every male born 40-50 yrs ago was named Daniel) was excited because the company he works for is making him take English lessons, so he tried to talk to me in English. But holy southern French accent. This is the guy who asked me if I knew who Elvis Presley was and I said no because I couldn't understand what the hell he was saying. But they're all sweet, so I'm excited. Might see if the recreations of the Lascaux caves are open. I about shat my pants when Valerie mentioned them. woo.
Went for a walk tonight because it's too hot during the day. It was so goregous at about 8:30, the scent of the flowers on the cool evening breeze, the sound of the Creuse babbling under the old stone bridges...it's like I'm trying to imprint everything in my memory so I won't forget this place. Still waiting to hear from job prospects (yes, Kim, I sent in my stuff for the editorial thing at the Ntl Gallery today, merci).
Ok, getting late. Have a wonderful week! I'll be back Friday.
