WisCon report, Thursday
I am posting in LJ instead of DW because I know there are lots of folks who haven't migrated over and I would like to keep all comments in one place. Hopefully, but next year, everything will be on DW.
I am going to have to write up my report in pieces, otherwise, I’ll never get caught up enough to get it out there!
Thursday
I left later than I wanted to because I carrying too many things in my hands on my way out of the house and I put my shoes down for a second and then never picked them pack up so I had to go back and get them! Once I was on the road, though, the trip went quite well. I took 90 instead of 94 and wow, did that make a big difference! The scenery is much more rural and the road is less wide, but there was lots less traffic, and the condition of the roads was much better.
I checked into sparkymonster ’s room mere minutes after she had stepped out for a snack, so I wandered down to the lobby and said hi to some old friends. raanve and wrdnrd gave me a WWjD button, which I pinned to my badge holder and wore proudly all weekend! (j is littlebutfierce ) I was introduced to shvetufae , who is very nice, and we walked to the ROOO reception together. I’m sorry Nnedi couldn’t make it, but Mary Anne’s reading was fantastic!
Shvetufae was meeting people for dinner, and I was meeting sparkymonster at Frida’s, so we split up after the reading. Sparkymonster brought some lovely people to dinner; I was sitting in the corner, so I didn’t get to talk to everyone, but Alberto was lots of fun, especially when our waiter encased his cell phone in a balloon and he was ok with it because he practices safe telephony! Dinner was very good (there were several veggie options) and the margarita pitchers were ½ price, which made up for the fact that it was about a zillion degrees in the restaurant. I think I have a new Thursday night tradition (hopefully minus the zillion degrees).
After dinner, some of us went to Geekaoke, which was lots of fun. I have pictures of Naamen and raanve singing! hari_mirchi and I put our names in for a song, but the dj was clearly taking names out of order and we never got to do our song, since shortly before midnight I declared my impending pumpkin-ness and walked back with a few other folks for some much needed sleep.
