Isabel's Room - 406, Hyperion Hotel, Wednesday morning

Dec 27, 2006 08:49

Despite being up late, Isabel was still up early. After getting dressed, she booted up her laptop and grumbled when there was only the faintest of WiFi signals available, apparently from the building next store. The signal did get stronger the closer she got to the window. Which explains why Isabel is currently perched on the window sill, ( Read more... )

From next door, Cedric came over, trying to look saddened and/or in pain.

"I stubbed my toe," he said, mock sadly. "I'm not used to this place."

"Oh woe!" Isabel said, her face full of sympathy. "Does this mean you want to go home?"

He nodded slowly and frowned in great exaggeration. "I just want sympathy for my now sore toe."

"You'll get plenty of sympathy then," she grinned. "But if you're looking for someone to kiss it and make it better? Sorry, but I don't do feet."

"Does kissing toe have some magical restorative powers that I'm unaware of?" Cedric asked, stepping further into her room.

Since the wireless signal seemed to have permanently disappeared, Isabel closed the laptop, set it on the desk then sat cross-legged on her bed. "You've never heard the expression kiss it and make it better before?"

"I have not," he said, shaking his head. "What's it mean?"

"It's something you usually tell little kids when they skin their knee or get some kind of bump or bruise," she explained. "A kiss is supposed to make it all better."

"Does it really make it better?" Cedric asked.

"When you're six, yes," Isabel nodded. "But now? I don't think so."

"I don't think my parents used that particular way of healing," Cedric said. "But, it sounds nice, at least. How are you this morning, Isabel?"

"It's not so much about the healing as it is about the comfort. A hug and a kiss from mom can do wonders to make a skinned knee feel better," she smiled, remembering a few skinned knees of her own. "What do wizard parents do to make their little wizards boo-boos feel better? Let me guess, a wave of the wand, not dirty!" Isabel said quickly. "And that makes it feel all better?"

She grinned and pointed at some notes. "I'm just peachy. Before the connection utterly died on me I was able to get directions to a bunch of different touristy places. You can pick."

"The wand was usually used," Cedric said, laughing. "A simple spell or two to mend scrapes and cuts and broken bones. And I can pick a place to go? Is that wise?"

"See now why didn't you tell me this? I would have gone to see you when I gave myself a huge papercut while wrapping Christmas presents," she laughed. "Why wouldn't it be wise? I want to do something you'll enjoy." She handed over the notes. ""Is there anything on there that looks interesting?"

"I might pick something quite...bad," Cedric said, taking the notes and looking them over. "What are the La Brea Tar Pits?"

"They're huge pools of mucky, greasy stuff that have been around forever," Isabel explained. "Back when things like mammoths and sabertoothed tigers roamed around they would fall in and get trapped. Now palentologists excavate the site to pull out and study the old bones."
