When you're pregnant with a half-alien, half witch/Whitelighter baby, regular prenatal care just wasn't going to cut it. Which was why Isabel and Wyatt had been making regular trips to the more alien friendly future for the last nine months ( Read more... )

Savannah was definitely pacing a bit out in the waiting room as she waited to hear news. She wanted to be in there with her "big sister", but thus far, she hadn't been able to duck past people and go see Isabel and Wyatt.

Bridge was here, of course. He hadn't quite progressed to pacing, but there was a lot of bouncing one knee up and down and glancing over in the direction of the delivery room.

Jen, unlike Bridge, was pacing. Hands tucked carefully behind her back, precise and measured strides, exactly ten strides one way, a sharp turn, ten strides the other way.

It was her way of dealing with A) the nerves and B) how perturbed she was at herself for being so twitchy about this.

She'd mostly learned to relax, but, well . . .

Xander was... Xander. Which meant that given the lack of deserving people to be sarcastic at or things he could hit with some sort of metal-headed tool, he'd been reduced to fiddling with his phone.

"Somebody needs to help me eat these," he said, waving his phone at the large pile of Twinkies on the waiting room coffee table. Well, the large ziggurat of Twinkies; every so often he'd stop thumbing the glowy blue button on his phone and use the results to add a couple more levels to his creation.

"Dear God, no," Parker said, pacing her way around the room. "I'll throw them up, I'm too wired."

"Better not, then. I don't think we've got the facilities to deal with that here." In a hospital 15 years in the future.

Okay, so he wasn't entirely without targets for sarcasm.

That got him a very mild head-slap on Parker's next pass, as her heels click-click-clicked on the floor.

"This is why I'm not having children. Or, possibly hiring a surrogate to have them for me."

"Not it!"

Xander started building a drawbridge.

Parker gave him an amused look, then a scarily thoughtful one. "But you guys have the technology for babies-in-jars..."

Xander shook his head and stabbed a finger toward Jen. "Those guys have the technology for babies in jars. We just have a lot of aliens."

"The future: disappointing me since 2007." Parker stopped to stared at the clock again. Then glared at the Twinkies. "Give me one of those."

"Okay, but if the Saxons invade because you ate the front door, all the little cream-filling people are gonna blame you," he warned, picking a single Twinkie out of the structure fairly delicately for a guy with such big hands.

"Tell them I'll build them a new moat. Out of ... whatever poisonously delicious cream this stuff is made out of," Parker concluded, nibbling. "I am still processing the whole 'mother' thing for Isabel." Then again, she still hadn't processed it for Rory, and that was what, five years ago?

"Tell me about it." Xander transferred a few more Twinkies to the battlements. Don't ask how a ziggurat can have battlements; you wouldn't like the answers. "Double for Willow, and one of those is named after me."

"Heh. Right, I forgot that, she and Peter started so young." Parker broke off a piece of yellow sponge cake with one long, sharp nail, and put it on one of the battlements. It was kind of horrifying. "Haven't these people heard of delaying until you're not sure you can have any?"
