Isabel was still mumbling under her breath when she banged through the door of her apartment. Ignoring anyone else that might be around, she headed straight for the kitchen and the pint of Hagen-Daaz that was hidden in the back of the freezer ( Read more... )

Savannah had been in the living room working on her laptop when she heard Isabel come in. She could hear that she was upset and that was never a good thing.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong that a two by four to a certain head can't cure."

Fortunately a little digging turned up a second pint (Wyatt had bought a dozen pints when Savannah first turned up on their doorstep. Over the last few weeks they'd worked their way through most of them) which Isabel tossed over to the other girl.

"Grab a spoon. Think of this as the alien version of getting an angry drunk on."

That's because Wyatt was awesome and knew that having ice cream on hand for the two young women kept them mostly out of trouble.

Savannah caught the pint of ice cream -- triple chocolate mocha or something like that -- and then went to the drawer to get a spoon. She opened the pint and took a bite before she leaned against the counter and raised an eyebrow at Isabel. She didn't say anything, figuring that Isabel would tell her why she was so mad when she was ready to.

"Had a visitor at work today," Isabel explained after another bite of her Creme Brulee. "Obviously he's suffered some sort of brain damage in the last few weeks because he had this delusion where I might possibly be willing to listen to him."

Now it was Savannah's turn to stab the spoon into her ice cream.

"Johnny had the gall to show up at your work." It wasn't a question. "Let me guess, he knows better to come to your home because he doesn't want to deal with Wyatt and expected that you would let him sweet talk you into why what happened shouldn't be such a big deal?"

There was more than a little bitterness in her voice.

"Ding, ding, ding...Give the girl a prize," she replied rolling her eyes. "Got it in one."

"He turned up, all smiles, with that stupid ass aww shucks expression on his face, seriously expecting me to buy it." Which only pissed Isabel off that much more because he thought she'd be dumb enough to fall for it.

Savannah stared back into the ice cream. She had known that Johnny wouldn't give up trying to talk to her easily, but she hadn't expected him to show up at Isabel's work. She swallowed hard.

"That's one of the things about Johnny. He thinks that certain expressions will always get him his way."

Which was why they had made up so many times from other fights.

She bit her lip. "I'm sorry."

"Do not!" Isabel snapped, "Be sorry. There's not a damn thing you need to be sorry for. He's the asshole and I'm a big girl who had a few things to say that he needed to hear."

She paused for a moment, absently digging at her ice cream as she remembered the confused look on Johnny's face as Isabel had dragged him into an unused meeting room and slammed the door.

"If I hadn't come here, you and Wyatt wouldn't be in the middle of this, Isabel."

She poked at her ice cream, finally taking another bite before she asked the question she wanted to.

"So what happened?"

"Please, family always winds up in the middle. It's not a big deal."

Isabel grinned and aimed for a snarky tone, because the last thing she wanted to do was get Savannah all upset again. "Well when it was all over and I opened the door I got a standing ovation from everyone that had gathered to listen. We might have gotten a bit loud," she admitted sheepishly.

"And you are very definitely my family," Savannah agreed.

When Isabel told her about how it ended, she couldn't help the small giggle that escaped her. "That must have been amusing." She was still holding onto her smile when she asked Isabel the question she coldn't make herself ask Johnny.

"Did he have at least a stupid explanation for what happened? Not for why I should forget about it and forgive him because the past is past and we should be thinking of our present and future." Oh yes, she knew that argument by heart. "But for why he did what he did?"

"Stupid explanation sums it up nicely," she replied with an exasperated shake of her head. "He was drunk and missing you and didn't think. Which seriously? Grow the fuck up already, get your head out of both the bottle and your ass and stop believing your own damn press. I told him that. Loudly."

"That's a good definition of it, believing his own press," Savannah admitted. "He certainly thought enough to bring some skank ass bitch back to our own bed to fuck while he was supposedly missing me." She shook her head. "No matter the problems or how much I missed him, I never got so drunk from missing him that I landed on some other guy's dick."

It was probably a good thing that she was finally showing some anger instead of just being so torn up when she mentioned him.

Anger was so much better then heartbroken.

Isabel snorted, because yeah, that mental image...."Oops I'm sorry I tripped. But since I'm here, want to give me an orgasm?"

Savannah managed to giggle again at Isabel's words."

She took a small bite of her ice cream. "What kind of nerve makes him think that he has any right to expect me to go back to him after what he did? My fiance cheats on me, and doesn't understand while I'm still not back in New York?" She shook her head. "Ass."

"More balls then brains apparently. I thought people were supposed to mature after high school," she mused. "In this case, it seems like the exact opposite."
