O, New York, how I yearn for you! How I pine!!!
I miss your smelly, hot, crowded subway tunnels and the noisy trains! I miss your flithy air and your polluted rivers; I miss the cool, speed-walking, (mostly) unobtrusive masses; I miss $15 martinis and smoking outside on your vivacious, piss-and-gasoline-smelling streets; I miss the smell of curry in east village, I miss being hit on by eccentric but friendly old men at Union Sq.; I miss Barnard and Columbia and the sun rising over the Hudson from Riverside Park; I miss listening in as random people converse on the subway about their happy (or not-so-happy), busy, ever-so-important NYC lives; I miss (relatively) quiet Williamsburg and I miss going into Dean and Deluca just to slobber; I miss going into Kiehl's just to slobber, and Otto Tootsi Plohound, and agnes b, and La Perla, and all the swank little boutiques in SoHo and all the grungy, off-beat little places in East Village; I miss Katz's and Schillor's and walking through lovely, tree-lined West Village and waiting for in line for 30 minutes for cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery;.... *sigh*
No expense is too great for you, my darling. Come August, I am YOURS!
