My tummy is being very grumpy.  Shuddup, you.

Ever notice how when we complain about our tummies being upset, 99% of the time we're really talking about our lower intestine?  "Ow, my tummy," sounds a bit better than "Ugh, my lower bowels are acting up."  o__0

I'm just heartsick over this stuff happening in the Gulf.  I tried to stop following it in the news because I just couldn't stand it, but there's really no avoiding it.  I've only ever lived in LA, MS, or AL, so this is my home, and my hometown is only about an hour from the water.  On the news tonight an elderly man fought back tears when talking about his family business on the beach, how his livelihood was gone, how he couldn't believe it.

Everyone in the US / NY area (and probably the world) can think of the world in pre-9/11 and post-9/11 terms, the Gulf region included.  But I don't know if people realize that, more than anything, our area is still very much defined in pre-Katrina and post-Katrina terms.  It's not even called Katrina, just The Storm.  You can still feel it in my hometown - not only were we trapped in a blender for 8 hours, but we had a big population swell after the storm that our city wasn't ready for and is still struggling to accommodate.

*sigh*  I just wish the Gulf could catch a break.   My prayers go out to all those affected by this disaster and all those trying to fight it.   : (

personal, woe
