Upon coming home from work on Friday I noticed a note from the post office taped to my front door. A trip to the other side of town this morning yielded a short conversation with an employee and a large envelope containing my diploma. I have also inquired about two job openings; one in Masan (마산시) and the other in Changwon (창원시).

Both cities are located on Korea's east coast, which is not an ideal location for me given that everyone I know lives in the west around Seoul (more specifically, Suwon, Seongnam, and Yangju). Masan is close to Busan (Korea's second largest city and a great place to see replicas of turtle ships) and the Eulsukdo Bird Sanctuary. Meanwhile, Changwon is home to many of Korea's archaeological research institutes as well as the Gyeongnam Institute of Cultural Properties and the Changwon National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage. The anthropologist in me would love the prospect of spending time there on my days off, although it's probably not a good place to pick up a local accent when it comes to learning Korean.

I plan on looking for positions closer to the nation's capital as well, but at least this is a start.
