中文 102

Of the twenty-five students in my Chinese 101 class last semester, only six are currently enrolled in Chinese 102. There are, however, a number of new faces that are a mix of students from last semester's 9:00 class and new arrivals with past experience in Chinese. I sit next to a guy that falls into the second category - he took an extensive, eight-week course in Chinese two summers ago and wants to improve his proficiency. We spent some time chatting after the second day of class last week, and he mentioned not feeling comfortable with all of the characters that Professor Luo (羅) writes on the blackboard. I offered to help him review, and he agreed.

Our first meeting was at a café over the extended weekend, and although one of the dialogues from our textbook contained the line "I'll help you practice your Chinese if you buy me a coffee" I was stuck buying my own drink. Maybe I'll have better luck next time. Also, does this mean that I've just become a Chinese tutor? Interesting. He did invite me to go snowboarding with his friends this weekend, but it's an offer I may refuse in order to go with MK at a later time.
