First thought...
HOLY SHIT THEY'RE GOING TO SHOW KAWAHIRO IN THIS WEEK'S EPISODE AND GIVE HIM A VOICE?! I was expecting to just see him from the waist down and then cut to the ending song and be all like "watch next week's episode to see who answered the door!" But I fangirled soooooooo hard when this happened!!
Second thought...
Dammit. He has white hair. And every fandom knows that if a character has white hair then that means he is/was/at some point/etc is a bad guy. BUT here's my theory though. So I'm thinking, Kawahiro was a bad guy, Tsuna beat him up, Kawahiro realized the error of his ways, and became a good guy. I-Pin has been delivering ramen to this man for years now. And Tsuna in the future is a badass. So I'm sure that Tsuna wouldn't let his precious family be in peril by putting them in the enemy's line of sight. Plus Kawahiro cares for I-Pin and he recognized and saved the family before Zakuro could get to them.
But at the same time, Reborn doesn't trust him. -sigh- Such a complicated character despite only appearing once in the entire series (so far).
