Big, Bigger, Biggest

Before I finished the cage crinoline, I tried it on to make sure everything was working properly. Glad I did because I noticed a few areas that needed shifting, and it gave me a chance to try on all of my various petticoats and decide which ones I am going to use for my ballgown.

Plain Cage:

I ended up taking in the CF top a little, it was sticking out to far and creating a ride in the skirt. I also made up a pad to help balance the cage to the back more. These photos remind me I still need to finish my combinations :)

Cage with Flounced petticoat:

Cage with Flounced and plain petticoat:

Skirt of great enormity! I think this is how I will wear it in the future when I inevitably make a 1850/60's ballgown if I don't get crazy and decide I need an elliptical.

Cage with Plain petticoat:

I Think this is how I am going to wear it with my 1840's ballgown, any bigger and I think it will scream "cage" too much. As it is I think it might be a little too big for pre-cage era, but oh well. Because of the sheerness I am definitely going to take myladyswardrobe's suggestion and make a petticoat to go under the cage. This probably wont get done in time for the photo-shoot next weekend, but hopefully before the ball on the 26th when I will be dancing in it!

...And the fate of the corded petticoat? Over break I am going to cut it down and make it more 1830's appropriate. That way I will have the full range of 1830-60 to play with :)

And now I need to go buy thread, and something to make a waistband out of!
