Yesterday we had our bodice fittings in class. We fit each other in pairs, and OH MY GOD having a fitting buddy is amazing!!! First I fit her in her waterfall-back pleated Victorian bodice and then her me in my lampas gown bodice. The rest of the class we spent doing the alterations to our patterns and the various demos and mini projects we have in that class.
So my homework for next week is to cut the foundation layer and the back silk pieces and a muslin layer of the front drapes (I want to check the pleats are nice before I cut the silk) and baste it all together for a real fabric fitting (And make the little padded side boob thing) I am almost done with the skirt (Cut, flat-lined, seams finished) so it is ready for me to start draping the pleats next class. I doubt I'll have time this weekend to start draping before then. I didn't finish the hoop skirt over the weekend, I hope to finish tomorrow.
I also bought this pattern to use as a base for a little headdress:

When I draped my bodice on the manniquin, we didn't have any arms handy. This made the off the shoulder part a bit tricky so I just draped further up the shoulder seam. During the fitting we pinned in some fabric and then I checked that against a flat-pattern method for dropped shoulders.
In a completely unrelated note, today I met Luster Bayless, founder of United American Costume Co. and he is made of complete win.
