Apparel Arts- Pants

Jan 21, 2011 00:16

I'v finally gotten to the section of my pattern drafting course were I get to make two original design pants (I had to draft 10 basic styles first) Yesterday I finished sewing up both of the mock-ups, and today I had a fitting in class. NO MAJOR CHANGES WEEE!!! This is such a releif! So far pants have been giving me a lot of trouble; I had to re-draft my sloper three times :(
Thankfully that all seems to be sorted out now, most of the changes were small and I was able to do them in class. I love that making myself pants counts as homework!

My teacher took some photos while I was in class, but unfortunately she used a flash and they came out a bit...see through :/ I took some new ones in front of the mirror, unfortunately it is a little harder to see the details with the lighting.

Pants 1- High waisted "Over-alls"

I have been really craving crazy pants, these will fit the bill for me. Simple in construction, they are going to button up the sides and have detachable suspenders. I am still waiting on swatches to arrive, but here's hoping I will have some nice medium weight 1/4" inch black and white striped cotton in my near future :)

Pants 2- Mcqueen Jodhpurs

I always knew for this project one of the pants was going to be a Jodhpur, but I didn't really have a direction until I saw the tweed McQueen pants with the lace-up detail. I love how dense it is, so it almost becomes braided. I am incorporating this feature (see panels of different colored muslin) on both the front and the back. To make my life MONSTROUSLY easier, I am using pre-made loop trim that is going to get sewn in the seams like piping. I will still have to lace-up all the panels though, THAT is going to be FUN.
These pants still need a bit more work than the other. I still need to draft the button fly, the leg plaquets (also button-up) Eliminate the side seams (now that the fit is right) Draft the lining, and move the back lace-up panel (Mostly for aesthetics). I hope to have all of that done by next week, and maybe the Black twill I have cut out If I am lucky. (I have to make full industry pattern-sets for both pants, right now they are just drafts without seam allowances) .

Tomorrow though Is all about corsets. I have errands planned to go buy boning, and time set aside to cut, cut, cut! Looking at how many projects I have going right now makes me feel a little crazy. But, I suppose that is somewhat "normal" when you are sewing for yourself, two different schools, and a commission. (Not to mention all my REAL homework)...I think It is bedtime now, I am really sore for no apparent reason, blarg.
