My Fabrics came from spoonflower!!!
I am really happy to finally have this fabric in hand, along with some of the new swatches. I am still waiting for the new "white work" Swatch to arrive, you can see the failed one under the cut.
I have been a bad bird all weekend and been avoiding my homework (Math, bleh) As a result I was productive in other areas! First I completely cut out the Quilted corset (Which took forever!) I made a bird hair peice, drafted two pairs of pants (Both of which I am going to be sewing in the near future) and made more gluten free mini pies.
I think I am going to try and wear the bird tomorrow, hopefully get a picture less blurry.
Bird:
This is a mushroom bird I found at a craft store for 50cents. I poked a hole in it with a needle, shoved a bobby pin up in it, snipped off the ends and glued everything in place. The bird is small enough that I can wear it "modernly" without the proportion being weird. I imagine it will make a good 18th century piece as well.
Pie:
This time I tried using some peanut flower I got from trader joes. This ended up being a major flub, although the flower is more tasty than rice flour it was even more dramatically brittle. I used a 50/50 mixture, I think if it had been 100% the pies would have disintegrated entirely :( At least the color is pretty! I also added some herbs to the crust, to combat the blandness problem of the rice flower, and that was good.
Spoon Flower Swatches:
Pink Lolita stripe on silk Crepe de Chine. I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like this. If it wasn't the most expensive fabric they offer ($34 a yard) I might consider buying some.
Organic cotton knit- I think their definition of organic also includes un-bleached because this fabric has a weird yellow cast to it. It's actually a little gross/dingy.
The "white work swatch" apparently their printer was having trouble telling the ivory from the transparent areas, resulting in a blank swatch. I had to send them a new copy with a 15% higher contrast. Last I heard from them it had worked and the new swatch was in the mail. If all works out I will have a matching fichu and engageantes for the spoonflower jacket!!!
