95% DONE

Sep 02, 2010 08:38

Last Thursday I had my final fitting/dress try on with Suzie at Apparel Arts.

BEHOLD the almost completeness!

The 95% completed dress!!! From the outside it is completely finished now with the exception of the neck ruffle (Which is 1/2 sewn on, hence a little wonky) All I have left is to sew the inside waist band on (Covering the raw edges) and make the hook+ eye closure in the front. Thread eyelets or bar tacks...decisions! Oh and hem it, I decided 1" all the way around, this will give me the tiniest bit of train in back.

There are a few things I would change if I made this dress again, mostly in the length and fullness of ruffles. Having taken the 19th Century rushing workshop, the pleat/gather ruffles in the original illustration make MUCH more sense. I might at some later point change out the wrist ruffles (I would also add a button closure) but I don't have it in me to re-do the other ones.

The petticoat:

My petticoat! The straps and closure are pinned together for fitting. I am really happy with how it has turned out. I ended up not adding the extra tucks before the fitting, and it is a good thing I didn't because it was just the right length! If I had added more it would have ended up to short. Guess it must have just slipped down a lot when I tried it on before.

(Please ignore the chemise, I let one of the sleeves out, because I noticed a gathering error...) Also, this corset makes my breasts look ridiculous, and the sun burn from the Pirate fair does not help......

Next up is finishing the last bits of hand-sewing, hopefully by September 18th, Finals willing. Then I get to wear it!!!
