Regency gown progress

Having class 8:30-6pm on a Monday was a bad Idea, how the hell do people go to work so long!

Anyway, I'v been making fast progress on the regency gown (Well, fast for me!) Public transit has been very helpful in giving me "time" to hand roll the ruffle edges and other hand sewing bits.

As of writing this, I have my bodice cut out and partially basted, skirt and sleeves assembled, and three ruffles left to hem!

Suzie Furrer (http://izodiea.livejournal.com/20148.html#cutid2) Has been a MAJOR help in getting my second mock-up figured out. These pictures I took very quickly when I had just finished stitching it at home. I had the fitting with Suzie during my class time the next day.

Mock-up 2:

First off, a lot of the shifting you see going on stopped when I sewed the other sleeve on (At which time center back was right on center back, not 2 inches over like in the picture)

I was having a lot of weirdness happening in the arms eye and upper sleeve. We fixed this by making the upper arm 1" shorter in length, and transferring more of the shoulder gathers into the bust area. Because their was just so much fabric gathered there (6 " about) it wanted to "spread-out" over the shoulder. Once we made those changes, the sleeve was less squashed, and the excess fabric in the front armseye went away.

I still have mixed feelings about regency style, I just don't think it really works with my body proportions. Maybe once the final dress is done I will like it better.

Some pictures of the skirt, and assorted ruffles.

I finished sewing one of the cuff ruffles on, and I am not really sure I like it. I can't exactly put my finger on it, but it just looks weird to me. Maybe where it is hitting on my wrist? Maybe it's too full, not full enough? It also doesn't "relax" it stay poufed out like that all the time.

I'm going to wait until I have the rest of the ruffles on, and the sleeves basted in before I mess with it anymore. Maybe it will look right once the whole look is assembled *Fingers crossed*

I also made an alteration to my chemise, the front strap was bunching up uncomfortably, so I cut out some fabric, and gathered the sleeve cap. Voila!
