It’s festival time in downtown Dursleyville. It is one of the two times of year when all the weirdos come out of their closets and broom cupboards ( Read more... )

Happiness is such a fickle thing. Most folks do not realize they were happy until they look back on events with 20/20 hindsight. It is so much nicer to realize it at the time so then you can enjoy the moment as well as the memories

It was a strange day today. Aside from the hot as hell weather, all the grand plans got tossed in the bin. Knew already that half the buses would be running strangely or not at all due to the street closures and stage work for tomorrow night's festival of angels. Not amused at all how they moved this event to Saturday when it's been on Fridays for as long as Izzie remembered. So there's a bit of sour grapes there
But there is far too much putting all their eggs in one big fat basket instead of having lots of smaller free street theatre shows like there used to be when David Blenkinsop was at the helm. He always found the most amazing groups - the best would invariably be French. Some were so good, used to go see them even on public holidays and then pay for a taxi home

Had already decided that the traffic disturbances would be a good reason not to be greedy and just slink off to the Lair after one show. It was in Northbridge rather than the usual treasury venue. Figured this was a good opportunity to see all the interesting stuff in the museum precinct - especially the new steampunk festival gardens and the outdoor library
But there's some laneway festival on too so the whole area is pretty much off limits and it would not be possible as originally planned to walk back past the gorgeous urban orchard

Tonight's show was "Dr Faustus - a soulless western" It was truly wicked and wonderful. This serpent especially enjoyed the guest appearance of Lord Voldemort along with one Mel Phistopheles and how so much of the Latin magical spells seemed to be shamelessly snatched from Potter
Then there was the Negronomicon full of the darkest blackest magic.
So much of the humour was based on parody and taking the piss out of stuff. The more familiar you are with the originals, the more you get the inside jokes. Izzie detected the odd line or two from the original plays and stuff that sounded suspiciously Shakespearean
They even had a Tardis for Dr Faustus to go on his adventures through time

Got one week of wickedness left. It was the right decision to pretty much ignore the official festival and save the culture vulture stash for the fringe festival.
