THE GOOD NEWS: My family is pushing for my grandfather to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, with full honors as a World War II veteran. This will leave my Saturday open for NWA (will prolly have to charter my own way there and back though), and I won't miss my Dev of Fiction class.
THE NOT-SO-GOOD NEWS: If this really pushes through, then the funeral has been moved to Tuesday. I will end up missing Comics Class, and the presentation we were supposed to have of our original characters and the final project we're supposed to do.
Backtrack to earlier events of the day: I skipped out on exercising since I had pulled in REALLY late the other night. Poked random people on y!m and managed to watch the first episode of the HanaKimi j-drama. It's VERY different from the manga, but I am loving every single second of it. X3
Comics Class revolved around the theories behind paneling and framing in comics -- I now have a hueg handout, with examples, to guide me and my partner while we're doing the final project. It's also a very good reference point for my thesis and other future studies. It brought me back to this conversation I had with
khursten about reviewing and critiquing comics too.
My plans of staying home right after Comics was foiled, as I got dragged out to Shangri-La to buy my first formal pair of pants (I've always ended up borrowing my Mom's before). We cooled our heels at Starbucks for a while before leaving the mall -- Mom bought me iced tea. Dropped in at the funeral home long enough to say hi and round over to the Estacio-Castelo side, just to peek in on the family of my brother's friend and ex. I also managed to meet Mr. DM Consunji (Chinese tycoon in the construction business down here and all that jazz)... the last time I had met him was when I was in grade school. We talked about Shakespeare. *_*
In between all of this activity, I have been reading The Namesake, a book by Jhumpa Lahiri. It's one of the most culturally enriched books I've read so far, as Indian cultures and customs are very, VERY new to me. Some of the more fascinating things I've learned from it so far are the Bengali customs behind naming, and the elaborations on the rice-eating ceremony. I'll probably be noting this stuff down for my stories in the future.
*stares at her bookshelf* ...Aw, man. After The Namesake, there's all this stuff. Then there's the stuff in my hard drive. Then my "required reading" for Comics. Then my novels for Development of Fiction. Then the stuff on RoD's lists.
... =_=
Staying home tonight -- there's stuff to watch, things to edit, a book to read and school work to do. For the moment, however, I'm going to go back to watching Kekkaishi and crossing my fingers for Devil May Cry 3. The past two episodes have been rather... disappointing.
